This set marked Ives's debut as a recording artist. He accompanies himself on the guitar as he sings twelve folk songs.〔Howard Taubman, "Records; The Smokies. Daniels, ''The American 45 and 78 RPM Record Dating Guide, 1940–1959'', Westport: Greenwood, 1985, p. 37〕 This collection should not be confused with Ives' album ''The Wayfaring Stranger'' released on Asch in 1944 with different songs.
